About the L-39MS
Meet the higher-performance evolution of the L-39, the L-39MS. Up to 80 knots faster in cruise, this jet features the Lotarev DV-2, a turbofan that puts out 1,000 pounds more thrust than the L-39C’s AI-25TL while consuming the same amount of fuel.

The L-39C’s 26-gallon tip tanks were enlarged to 60 gallons per side on the L-39MS, offering an additional 68 gallons of on-board fuel. In addition, the MS’s flight controls are hydraulically boosted to reduce the forces necessary to manipulate the controls during high-speed maneuvers. The Saphir 5M APU in the MS provides standby hydraulic and electrical power in addition to supporting engine start.
