FUEL TANK MODS:

Internal Aux Fuel Bladders (60 Gallons)

Increased fuel capacity by 60 gallons with two (2) new fuel bladders installed in the L-39 aft avionics bay. Fuel is transferred by electric fuel boot pump, activated from the front cockpit. Fuel is transferred at approximately 180 GPH. Upon completion of the transfer, a low-pressure warning light (“Aux. Fuel Press”) illuminates on the right-hand annunciator panel. All fuel is useable, and is filled through a separate filler on the aft fuselage.

Extended Tip Tanks (30 Gallons)

This modification of the standard 26.4 gallon tip tanks adds a total of 15.6 US gallons to each tip tank.

NOTE: With both of the above fuel options, this L-39 now carries a total of 430 US Gallons, giving it the same effective range as an airplane equipped with two 350-liter drop tanks.

DESCRIPTION OF AIRFRAME RESTORATION:
Creation of a nose baggage compartment; installation of a 40 amp/hr Gill 638 ES sealed battery; certification of all oxygen and pneumatic pressure vessels; replacement of all fuel cells (5) with factory new originals; installation of self-contained bleed air system (automatically charges pneumatic system); new Michelin or Goodyear main landing gear tires; modification of the L-39 oxygen system to be U.S. compatible; installation of US military oxygen regulators; installation of an Aeroflash aircraft strobe system; creation of a rear fuselage tool storage compartment; lighted engine compartment (makes checking engine oil level easy!); creation of an easily-accessible accumulator monitor / servicing access door;  pilot entry “step” warning lights; step recess tool kit; complete overhaul of Russian accumulators; removal of all Soviet Bloc non-essential equipment, wiring, and plumbing (resulting in an approximate 220lb weight reduction); final ballasting, using the Aero Vodochody factory weight and balance data. All retained aircraft systems were returned to the highest reliability standards.

DESCRIPTION OF COCKPIT RESTORATION:
Both cockpits were fully disassembled, modified, inspected, cleaned, and prepared for restoration.

New custom made front and rear instrument panels were installed. All engraved Soviet-style lettering and symbology was removed from all cockpit panels and switch guards. Console panels were stripped, then repainted to factory-new condition with custom silk-screening in English. All switch guards were painted in original colors, relabeled in English, then clear-coated for durability. All engraved placards were replaced with custom placards. These are all manufactured in the original colors, but labeled in English.

Airspeed and rate-of-climb instruments were overhauled and re-marked in knots (ASI) and feet-per-minute (VSI) after careful re-calibration and certification. The altimeters in both cockpits were replaced during the avionics installation process. The fuel gauges were remarked in gallons.

Finally, the original cockpit and windscreen Plexiglas components were polished to near factory-new condition.
